Scamming the Elderly is a Rising Occupation

Mar. 30, 2008 Posted in Simply Wierd

It seems that no matter how hard I try get something it just drifts away out my reach! I received a letter that I had won a vacation to Nigeria. It was free and all I needed to do was pay the transportation taxes of $295. The lady was really nice and offered to fill in the passport application for me over the phone. You can't get service like that anymore. There was no such company in Nigeria and no one but me needs to know about the info contained in a passport application.

There appears to be a misunderstanding about if buying magazines will improve the chances of winning an income for life from house that has a clearing problem for a publisher. The letter doesn't say it will but maybe it can if the garages across America filled up with magazines have any say. Customer be wary! Companies and people are only kind if they are getting something from you.

You have help at home with meals and medications. The friendly nurse moved the prescriptions to a pharmacy she knew that delivered. How thoughtful! Several months later she didn't show up. Later I found out she was arrested for selling drugs. The pharmacy also had a $3000 bill for me to pay that was past due on prescriptions I didn't order. Beware of delivery and keep other people out of your pharmacy accounts.

There is an Indian women who keeps calling me about doing a Discover merchant card transaction requiring me to provide credit card info and the account will not be billed. I called Discover which was a mistake. For they also wanted my credit card info. Needless to say neither of these idiots needed me to spend more time with them in my opinion.

Did you get a note from a stranger about trying a new health product for a medical condition that you have. That was a sales pitch. The local ditch diggers association does not have a tax deductible charity organization calling you for a donation. It is a business that probably give the organization 10% of whatever it collects and keeps the rest. If you use a credit card and stop payment they put you on there improve credit rating program by trying to trash yours!

Park real close to the ATM drive in. Don't use the walk ups. Lock your doors and drive off if approached. One doesn't have to be polite these days. Just remember what you experienced with "Customer Service."

Get a paper shredder and shred all letters. That's easier that trying to figure out if the info is something scammers would use. If you live in Greensboro recycling has the potential to bring a human being in contact with your discarded mail. If asked for a social security number as a security measure make up one. Don't use your real one. Take the driver's license and telephone number off your checks. If asked make one up!

Don't believe you are lucky enough to win anything these days. Remember that free these days means that they are free to take your money! If you are elderly, say over fifty, you are a prime target of scammers. One, you have money or a home. Two, you probably are impaired by a medical condition. Three, you believe you should be polite to strangers. Four, no one ever blatantly lied to you in the past.

You are not required to answer your phone because it rings. Get caller id and screen out 1-800 numbers. You are not required to listen to a phone conversion any longer than you want. Feel free to hang up any time you sense a sales pitch.

Ask the other party on the phone why they are calling a no call list phone number. That no call means no call and who can you talk to about the penalty fee check that is due you. Why would you ever want to cash a check over the phone or provide the info to do so with a total stranger you never even met!

I rarely have friends. Only idiots or marketers call or mail me. "I called you the other night and you didn't answer." Imagine that!

My wife says I shouldn't hang up on people. What she really means is that she gets tired of trying to be politically polite to fools that call me an don't understand or are vocabulary impaired to a two letter word such as NO! It is my telephone I pay for it. Therefore you are a guest on my telephone subject to my rules and conventions. What is the use of being an owner if you don't act like one?

I feel that it is sufficient to say no only once. Any attempts not to accept that decision or to play at overcoming objections will lead to dead air for I will not be on the phone with you.

When I retired I didn't know that it meant I didn't have a life and was available to directions from others. For me retirement is a full time job that doesn't have vacations and leaves very little time for outside projects. I would like to help you but between retirement and my wife's demands I just don't have the time.

Take care, stay safe, avoid the scammers!

I have this circular driveway in front of my home on which I envision a toll road. I just need venture capital to build the toll booth and automatic gate opener. Between the Tupperware, Amway, Cosco parties I could easily make a killing. Surely there are some smart investors who want in on the ground floor? Why is this a good investment? Because it is an investment in America's infrastructure! Road, bridges, mass transit are being operated and funded by private companies with a profit motive. So call my toll free number 1 888 832 8383.

Please help me with a private charity whose humane goal is the preservation of a unique life style in our society. This individual's stellar deeds in laziness and forthright desire to be obstinate led to the discovery of diversity. The notion that we are all not the same or all on the same plane. The elite need to feel elite and by having a diverse person to point at they can. For less then the cost of one hour with your therapist you can really feel better about yourself. Because this diverse person is black you also receive carbon credits the politically correct currency of the real movers and shakers.

Platinum sponsors begin at $1000, gold is $500, but the political candidates may use my skills for $25,000 a day. Can you afford not to test market your message with a diverse person? What do I bring to the table?

Who doesn't like to feel good about themselves? Politicians have used diverse persons for years for that purpose. There but for the color of my skin go I. Appeal to the poor, those who rose from poverty to wealth, those who know a tax shelter when they see one. Let us see, male, black, over sixty, retired and married. The minority view of the American experience or the majority of the world's population hopes of attaining the American experience. Politically I am a Republican who registers Democrat because this is a Democrat county. I would have no problem with registering aa Republican when the county becomes Republican controlled. One's income is based on pragmatic decisions. I know that the color of money is not white or black but green and rapidly becoming diverse in colors. Ride the trend with me.

A contribution to me goes directly to the economy. It won't be wasted sitting idle in a freezer compartment. I provide accurate feedback. I am with you as long as your polling numbers are up and speaking against you when they fall. It is hard to keep a politician bought these days.

I can provide self-destruct statements to anyone who wants to wear the sackcloth of failure.

"I never met a white person I couldn't hate!" or "To waste a black person is business as usual." even

"The only thing we need fear is the Muslim."

Diverse persons are equal opportunity offenders.

My minister once wondered in a sermon why one eighth of Negro blood made a person a Negro instead of White? What he was alluding to was that seven eighths of white blood wasn't worth very much and weak. This was the Jim Crow law of the land. It was of course an illogical premise. I know of no "Whites" who want to be "Black." What person wants dreadlocks and darker skin; sun bathing is excluded?

I have no intentions of denouncing him. In any case I digress. Feel free to email me if you are interested.

Basketball Anyone?

Mar. 26, 2008 Posted in Simply Wierd

December 1891, Dr. James Naismith developed basketball as a game. True, the game has evolved from one point to three point goals and longer courts.

I think the game needs to be adjusted for today's athletes! Get rid of fouls, downsize to a single goal not two and allow Kung FU contact between players. The single goal would speed up the game and prevent the dull running back and forth seen in most games today. Also defense and offense would be a fluid rapidly changing athletic tactic with both teams in the the sweet spot jockeying for position.

Layups would count for one point and there would be no foul shots. A goal scored off an opponents head into the goal would count as five points. No points would be awarded for goals in which the ball entered from below the goal. We could look forward to the booty snatch, dropped drawer plays and unique passing styles. Maybe a little English on the ball.

Dribbling should not be restricted to the floor but also allowed in the air. I am debating whether to remove the backboards from the goal. I think it would allow greater public participation in the game.

The Problem With ...

Mar. 19, 2008 Posted in Simply Wierd

The problem with pedestals is that objects placed upon them seem to topple off eventually.  Mrs. Clinton is an example.

The best doesn't always rise to the top of a society.  The top is not the best place to be if you want a low effort position.  For sure your friends are beneath you.  Uneasy lies the head of state.

Sometimes voters are swept up in the political campaign and experience the morning after headache.  Like believing the campaign promises were actual promises to be kept.  That the politician would be bound by anything he or she said.  What politicians are really doing is running for an award like actors do.

Those who rise above the common man are quickly struck by how it hurts to do so.  The desire for uniformity seems to be force down not elevate up!  The smartest men often play the fool for others.

If one wishes to excel in life one should study life  in the same manner and discipline as one would medicine or accounting.  Life does have a terminal degree called death.  So far I haven't found any do overs.
