Increasing Crime

The yellow crime scene tape reflected the garish flashing blue lights of a parked police car. The strobing light didn't improve my headache as ducked beneath the crime scene tape. It was 2 AM and Greensboro would wake and hear about another murder. I signed the offered clipboard as the officer left to put it in his car.
The drought blighted front yard mourned the young teen-aged body sprawled in front of a gray sagging porch unpainted for years.
“Objectivity” I muttered to myself.
Greensboro appears to be having a brief surge of young murder victims. While facts are available yet these could be gang killings or perhaps hate crimes. I don't envy the police as they try to figure out who is responsible.
Big city crime is making itself known in Greensboro.
Violent crime numbers for Greensboro rose in 2006 mostly because of robberies, while homicide and rape reports held steady.
As for cases handled by sheriff’s deputies, Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes, like Cooper, said Thursday he believes gangs and drugs played a part in the crime figures. Barnes also cited another possibility.
"I think it’s just from an influx of people," he said. "We’re just getting more and more people." Excerpt from the News & Record.
