Anchorage Alaska - Report Backs Palin in Firing of Commissioner

A report released by a state board Monday found that Gov. Sarah Palin did not apply improper pressure to try to dismiss a state trooper who was her former brother-in-law and did not violate state ethics laws in the firing of her public safety commissioner.

The report by the Alaska Personnel Board contradicts the conclusions last month of a separate inquiry into the matter overseen by a bipartisan legislative panel. The inquiry found that Ms. Palin had breached a state ethics act by pressing to have the trooper, Mike Wooten, fired. The panel said, however, that the governor was within her rights to fire the public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan.

The personnel board’s report, based on an investigation led by an independent counsel, Timothy J. Petumenos, concluded . . . (New York Times)

McCain Palin - DOUBLE-STANDARDS Pallin's family dramas: So is it true or not? Time will tell

Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 8:41 AM

Posted in McCain Palin

by DCN

Q. But if Obama had a pregnant 17-year-old daughter......and a son with a drug problem and there were rumors of multiple affairs..... what would the mainstream media do? (WWMMD?)

A. DRILL, BABY, DRILL! Obama Drama, 24/7 all over cable, networks and the works. Because as ABC's Cokie Roberts used to say (in defending the media as it pursued every detail of the Clintons' sex lives), "it's out there, you know."

Sigh. The National Enquirer is such a tease-----I guess I'm gonna have to drag my sorry self to the grocery store to buy their latest issue for the details about at least one of Sarah's extra-marital affairs (supposedly there have been several), this one with Todd's ex-business partner. The ex-business partner is in the process of getting a divorce. Last week, he suddenly filed an emergency request to get the divorce papers sealed. But the judge refused and apparently the National Enquirer got some of the details.

But meanwhile, the stuff revealed below...about the Pallins' oldest son, Track, having an oxycontin/cocaine/pot habit.......Sarah kicking Bristol ("a huge stoner") out of the house after discovering she was pregnant and forcing her to live with her aunt, Heather, 25 miles away; the shot-gunned "the baby mamma's future wedded dada"  (as the Enquirer scribe so gracefully put it) being dragged out of the house and put on a plane to the RNC show... well, it's one amazing tale of family values.

You know, after reading this small sample, I do think Pallin and the Repubs should stop whining that Oprah won't book Sarah on her show. Because Oprah is far too tame for this crew. I mean, hello? This is the ultimate Jerry Springer show. In fact, I'd love to see Jerry get the whole extended Pallin clan on---including the ex-brother-in-law from Troopergate, the mother-in-law who isn't sure if she'll vote for Sarah and maybe show pictures of the Pallin family in happier times, shooting bear and elk from a helicopter. (No, I'm not making this up. Sarah says that's how they hunt up there in Alaska.)

Okay, it's late so we only have time for a few questions.

        Q. If these details are true, will it matter to the Christian right?

        A. No.

Q, Will ABC's Charlie Gibson will bring any of this up on Friday as he has his first (among a promised series of exclusive interviews) with Sarah Pallin?

        A. Not if Charlie wants a series.

        Q. Will these rumors break into the rest of the mainstream media?

        A. Don't hold your breath. To be fair, it is the National Enquirer. But hey, the Enquirer was right about John Edward's affair. They were almost always right during the O.J. trial.  And frankly, if the McCain campaign won't vet their veep and the corporate media is too cowed, well, heck, somebody's got to do it.

So, hey, it's out there. Sure, it's trashy. But man cannot live on the New York Review of Books alone. Enjoy.

Here is the statement:
"Tonight I call on the McCain campaign to stop treating Sarah Palin like she is a delicate flower that will wilt at any moment," said Brown. "This woman is from Alaska for crying out loud. She is strong. She is tough. She is competent. And you claim she is ready to be one heart beat away form the presidency. If that is the case, then end this chauvinistic treatment of her now. Allow her to show her stuff. Allow her to face down those pesky reporters... Let her have a real news conference with real questions. By treating Sarah Palin different from the other candidates in this race, you are not showing her the respect she deserves. Free Sarah Palin. Free her from the chauvinistic chain you are binding her with. Sexism in this campaign must come to an end. Sarah Palin has just as much a right to be a real candidate in this race as the men do. So let her act like one."

Is Sarah Palin Racist? “Well, She Ended Our Conversation When She Learned I Was Black”

September 17, 2008

by Charley James –

Long before Gregory Charles Royal became a judge on America’s Hot Musician, a talent competition airing in 200 US television markets, he was a hot, young jazz trombonist. Today, he is someone confirming from first-hand experience that Palin has always been racist as alleged by numerous sources in my original article on her, “Alaskans Speak: Palin Is “Racist, Sexist, Vindictive and Mean.”

And he’s willing to be quoted by name.

Royal (shown at left) is incredibly talented. He received formal trombone training when he was 11 in the DC Youth Orchestra Program while simultaneously playing in Washington clubs with Roscoe Bowie’s Message Band and Show. He also received principal trombone honors in the First American Festival of Youth Orchestras and, at 15, was the youngest member of the Howard University Jazz Ensemble. He toured with Al Blakey and the Jazz Messengers and Slide Hampton and His World of Trombones, and starred on Broadway as an on-stage musician in Five Guys Named Moe, which was nominated for two Tony awards. Along the way, Royal wrote and acted in It’s a Hardbop Life, the first play featuring an entire cast of jazz musicians, which debuted at the 2004 New York Jazz Festival.

He also performed with the Duke Ellington Orchestra for 10 years, from 1989 to 1999. In May 1990, the orchestra was touring Alaska and played in Anchorage. While there, the 28-year old Royal and a small group of other musicians from the orchestra went into a fast food joint near the airport for a bite to eat.

“I saw a great looking young lady and, as lots of travelling musicians do, I struck up a conversation with her,” Royal recounted to me after my original piece on Palin was published. “She told me her name was Sarah.”

Royal admits he was hitting on her and, he claims, she knew it. Picking up women is a regular activity for most musicians, especially when on the road. The reason this particular conversation stuck in his mind is because she said that while she wasn’t much into jazz, she played the flute.

“This is why I remembered talking with her,” Royal states.

He told Sarah about talking about the Modern Jazz Quartet as an example of not strictly jazz style music but could still be cool. “I was trying to keep the conversation going,” Royal says, “so I mentioned some of the musicians, including Percy Heath.”

“She quickly let me know that Heath was her name too,” Royal recounts.

Royal claims that she mentioned going to school in Hawaii but did not say anything about being married or being pregnant. “I would remember that. Anyway, it was May 1990 and she was just a couple of months pregnant and wouldn’t have shown.”

Royal felt he was making progress with Sarah Heath and when a couple of his musician friends approached, he waved them off. “But she saw them and got weird.”

“Sarah asked me if they were with me. I asked her what was up because she was obviously a little weird after seeing them,” states Royal, who has Native American blood in his ancestry is a fairly light skinned while his buddies were much darker.

“I don’t mean any harm,” Royal says Sarah told him, which is exactly what she meant but he recalls her saying that she doesn’t do black guys.

“I said ‘I’m Black,’” Royal relates, to which Sarah replied with, “Well, you aren’t really black. You’re like …”

Royal remembers her voice trailed off as if not knowing what to say next as the reality of the situation sunk in on her. “Then she got real confused and the conversation ended rather quickly and uncomfortably.”

So how did this long-ago, failed pick-up come back to Royal’s mind some 18 years later?

“I followed the conventions but never connected Sarah Palin to the Sarah Heath I hit on,” he says, “because there was no physical resemblance and the last name was different. It was from watching an MSNBC story on her that I saw the photos and learned her family name.”

When the now-Sarah Palin uttered the immortal words, “So Sambo beat the bitch” to the hearty laughter of her luncheon companions during the primaries, it was merely an extension of what appears to be her lifelong views on race. When she thought Greg Royal was white, she seemed more than eager to make the beast with two backs with him; in an instant of learning he was actually black, she fumbled for words and fled into the streets ‘lest she catch something from him.

At least we know she fits in naturally with the racist right wingnuts that infest the Republican Party, unlike her running mate who says whatever he needs to say at the moment to fit in with them. For whatever that’s worth.

Anchorage Alaska - Alaskans question Palin's e-mail secrecy

State lawyers say that the governor's e-mails about public business should be treated like any other public record, even if she's sent them through a private account such as Yahoo. (Juneau Empire.com)

For real. The activist group self named "Anonymous" got them.

Sarah Palin's Yahoo account hijacked, e-mails posted online Posted by Ryan Naraine

On the heels of media reports that Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin was using a private Yahoo e-mail account (gov.palin@yahoo.com) to conduct Alaska state business, hackers have broken into the account and posted evidence of the hijack on Wikileaks.

An activist group calling itself `anonymous' claimed responsibility for the compromise and released screenshots, photographs and the e-mail addresses of several people close to Palin, including her husband Todd and assistant Ivy Frye.

Sarah Palin's Yahoo account hijacked, e-mails posted online

Here's the announcement from Wikileaks:

Circa midnight Tuesday the 16th of September (EST) Wikileaks' sources loosely affiliated with the activist group `anonymous' gained access to U.S. Republican Party Vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's Yahoo email account gov.palin@yahoo.com. Governor Palin has come under criticism for using private email accounts to avoid government transparency mechanisms. The zip archive made available by Wikileaks contains screen shots of Palin's inbox, example emails, address book and two family photos. The list of correspondence, together with the account name, appears to re-enforce the criticism.

The list of e-mails include an exchange with Alaskan Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell about his campaign for Congress and an e-mail from Amy McCorkell, whom Palin appointed to the Governor's Advisory Board on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in 2007.

Wired's Threat Level reports that McMcCorkell confirmed that she did send the e-mail to Palin.

Following the release of this story, both Sarah Palin's better known account gov.sarah@yahoo.com and the gov.palin@yahoo.com account have been suspended or deleted as revealed by a test email sent to these addresses by Wikileaks. Although the reasons for the deletion of both accounts can not not yet be established, one interpretation is that Palin is trying to destroy her email records.

Wikileaks said it may release additional e-mails should they prove be of political substance.

Here's one screenshot of an e-mail released by the group.

McCain Palin - Troopergate probe running into new resistance

I thought I had heard or read somewhere that it was Obama's camp who was behind all this mess with Paling. Oh well as usual lies, lies and more lies.

JUNEAU, Alaska -- Alaska's investigation into whether Gov. Sarah Palin abused her power, a potentially damaging distraction for John McCain's presidential campaign, ran into intensified resistance Tuesday from state Republican lawmakers who want to end it or delay it past the election.

Alaska's House speaker, a Republican who supported the "Troopergate" investigation two months ago, openly questioned its impartiality and raised the possibility of delaying the findings. (Washington Post)
