Raleigh NC - No resignation package for Tilton (ElectriCities)

Now this makes a lot of sense to me. Why would a person need to receive a package after receiving a salary such as this? I don't give a damn if a person is fired or leave on their own, the pay should end when they end employment. It makes no sense that a person makes this type of money while the others who actually does the hands on work do not make the big bucks. C. Dancy II - Editor/TPA

The employment contract for Jesse Tilton III, the former chief executive officer for ElectriCities, did not include any financial compensation if Tilton resigned from his post, as he did earlier this month.

Attorney Mike Colo, who represents ElectriCities and is with the law firm Poyner and Spruill, released the terms of Tilton's contract earlier this week.

Under that contract, the former CEO was paid his annual $436,283 salary until the time of his resignation Nov. 7. His contract was slated to continue through September 2009. A severance payment benefit was also in the contract that would have required for Tilton be paid one year's salary and other compensation benefits if he was fired without cause. (Wilson Times)

Wilson NC - Officials correct to fight rate hike (ElectriCities)

by DCN

To those city of Wilson officials who attended Wednesday's N.C. Eastern Municipal Power Agency meeting and stood up to say enough is enough when it comes to more rate hikes -- good for you.

Everyone is Wilson is concerned about their energy costs right now, and for officials from ElectriCities, of which NCEMPA is a part of, to say that a 4 percent hike will be needed starting Feb. 1 should raise our leaders' dander. (Wilson Times)

Wilson NC - Power agency passes another electric rate hike

Rocky Mount officials will be crunching numbers in the coming months to see how a recently approved electric rate hike will affect the city and its residents.

The N.C. Eastern Municipal Power Agency Board of Commissioners voted Wednesday to increase wholesale electric rates by 4 percent for the 32 municipalities it represents.

After a meeting of the power agency’s rate committee, the board of commissioners green-lit the increase, which will go into effect Feb. 1, 2009.  (Rocky Mount Telegram)

Wilson NC - Cities fight power rate increase, Andre Knight urged the board to consider cuts to the budget and . .

Great job Knight for challenging the board to consider looking at the budget. There is a meeting today about the budget so can't wait to see how it unfolds.

Wilson leaders fought against a 4 percent electric rate increase that was passed Wednesday by the N.C. Eastern Municipal Power Agency.

Fred Horne, Wilson's director of utilities, said during the NCEMPA rate committee meeting that the increase should be postponed because of declines in the energy market, including nuclear fuel, which is used in the production of electricity. The cost of natural gas, oil and gasoline have all dropped during the past month. Horne said that information presented by ElectriCities staff, including a projected $19 million increase in costs in 2009, was based on October information. (Wilson Times)

Wilson NC - Censorship and ElectriCities RATE INCREASE

http://www.wilsontimes.com/News/Breaking/

Does this sound as stupid to you as it does me? You read it right. They are out of money so they need to build up a fund and they need to do that by charging us. I know what you are thinking ... they could make cuts, freeze hiring, cut out advertising, sell their hybrid car, get rid of the wasteful fleet cars, stop buying goodies, stop taking trips, stop sponsoring groups and events, end their beach parties, eliminate too many lobbyists, eliminate communications, planning, marketing, regulatory affairs, economic development ... so many options. But they come up with charging us. And has anyone seen any cuts? I am beginning to believe the idiot CEOs standing before Barney Frank are better than the ElectriCities keystone cops. Tilton is gone but his legacy remains.

And, a friend just told me that the Wilson Times buckled to the "online forum" complaints from the high elected officials. That's right folks, people blogged in Wilson about corruption, improper spending, situations in schools, taxes, parking, buildings, late fees and it caused pain to the Mayor, Council Members, County Commissioners, School Board so they pooled their influence and got the paper to shut it down. How do you like that for censorship? they can take it down cause the big dogs don't like it but it does not stop us from writing the truth.

my my my
Here we go - just when we call for cuts, ElectriCities keeps on hiring. They hire Drew saunders a former legislator for $110,000 and skirt a law. Bad judgment. Now they hire this. Communications needs to be eliminated. The manager, Rebecca Agner is not getting the job done. She was spinning for Tilton and I am betting Hubert is no different and there was no need for a CEO and COO anyway. There has been nothing done that was straightforward which is why no one believes they are competent or truthful. SPin SPin Spin. Ken Raber is the communications spin doctor these days so why exactly do they need to hire again. Quit the waste of money on ads, commercials, pretty little brochures that tell me to turn on my fan and not use my ac and tell me to burn a table this winter not use fuel. This is a waste. Putting up booths and sitting out of town to tell people how great this place is is a lie and is not needed. HIRING FREEZE PEOPLE. Get rid of the old legislator come to feed at the trough and no more hiring. Period.

This should say we are the people feeding at the piggy trough of the taxpayer. Strategic Communications, Right. There has been sooo much of that.

Wilson NC - ElectriCities should look at all cost savings

Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 11:15 PM

Posted in ElectriCities

by DCN

The announcement of the ElectriCities CEO’s resignation offers the board the opportunity to reduce operating costs by approximately $ 450,000. Art Hubert, the current COO who served as the interim CEO in the past, will serve in that position until a new CEO is hired. Why does ElectriCities need both a CEO and a COO? There are many larger public corporations that operate with only a CEO. (Wilson Times)

Wilson NC - Public trust needs to be restored

Sometimes change at the top is needed.

If ever there was an organization for which that generalization applied, ElectriCities appears to fit all the criteria.

Mounting public unrest about rapidly rising electric rates, a staggering debt load that no one seemed willing to tackle and increased scrutiny by its member cities all suggested that a change in leadership was needed at the organization that oversees the two power agencies that provide electricity to 51 North Carolina cities.

And change is exactly what happened Friday when . . . (Wilson Times)

A former North Carolina legislator who chaired a committee on public utilities has been hired to lobby on behalf of the administrative arm of the power company serving Rocky Mount.

After resigning his N.C. House seat on Oct. 31, Drew Saunders, a six-term member of the N.C. General Assembly from Huntersville, was hired by ElectriCities on Nov. 3. His annual salary is $110,000. (Rocky Mount Telegram)

Rocky Mount NC - ElectriCities gives $52k to candidates

The administrative arm of the power agency that serves Rocky Mount contributed $52,000 this election to candidates running for state offices.

But none of the contributions came from electric ratepayers from the 32 cities served by the N.C. Eastern Municipal Power Agency.

ElectriCities is a not-for-profit organization that manages two of the state’s municipal power agencies, including the eastern agency serving Rocky Mount. Formed in 1965, the N.C. Eastern Municipal Power Agency provides customer service and safety training, technical assistance, communications, government affairs and legal services. (Rocky Mount Telegram)
