A political newcomer defeated a third-term Edgecombe County commissioner in Tuesday's primary. (Source Rocky Mount Telegram)
C. Dancy II - TPA Opinion: Total votes were Powell 1078, Anderson 419 and Della Sherrod 60. Sherrod had withdrawn from the race however she later said she was back in the race.
T.C. Cherry Commissioner walked by his new board member and didn't even congratulate her. This shows that he was pissed.
Viola Harris Commissioner had stopped by the auditorium where the Board of Elections had the room set up so we could see the results early on. I was the only one in the room and she, Larry Flowers who was running the program and a partner. Mrs. thing didn't even bother to speak however she was suppose to check out Higgs residence a couple of weeks ago and call me back the following day. She was talking to the 2 white guys about her Republican opposition that she had not seen him but twice. She will have to run in the November election. I wish I had another Democrat to choose from however I will have to vote for her or her opposition or not vote at all.
Steve Hoard Town Councilman and former Commissioner had stopped by early on looking for results for the Commissioner race for Anderson and Powell. I am quite sure this race was very important to Charlie Harrell Commissioner Chair who came early and stayed late and was present when the final answer came in. I believe I heard him tell Terry Smith editor of the Daily Southerner that he was surprised at the number of votes in the Commissioner race however he could have been talking about the Senate District 3 race.
