The Democrats in the 1st Congressional District met on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 11:00 AM in Snow Hill at the new Snow Hill Community Center.

Debra Taylor 1st Vice Chairwoman of the 1st Congressional District of Lenoir County was the organizer of the meeting because she had been acting Chairwoman since the Mayor of Snow Hill Rev. Dr. Donald Davis former Chairman of the 1st Congressional District and a candidate for the Senate District 5 resigned a couple of months ago. She said she asked Davis to act as the parliamentarian and Bennett Taylor Treasurer of the 1st Congressional District North Hampton County to act as the Chair. When I seen Mayor Davis come in I was hoping he was there to help carry out the meeting because I knew it would have been done correctly and in order. Davis said he was called on Saturday morning while he was on the way out to campaign.

The order of business for the meeting was to elect a new Chairman because per the Plan of Organization it was past due.

Reuben Clayton and Debra Taylor were nominated from the floor. Clayton was voted in overwhelmingly as the new Chairman.

There was a cry out for more unity and communication within the party.

A small workshop was held right after the meeting adjourned for all the Precinct Chairs and 1st Vice Chairs. Mira Jones Eastern Political Director for the NC Democratic Party was on hand to provide information to assist in the election process and to provide information for the workshop.
