A Nash County woman said a funeral home owner exercised such control over her that she ignored her better judgment and gunned down his wife two years ago because he asked her to do it.

In her first public statements since she and Mark Bowling were convicted of the Dec. 8, 2006, shooting death of Julie Bowling, Rose Vincent said she still loves Mark Bowling but will always regret going along with his murder plot.

"I never did it for money, never did. I did it because I loved him blindly," Vincent told WRAL News in an exclusive interview from North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women. (WRAL TV)

I am not shocked. I believe he did it so the others wouldn't have a chance to testify against him and all the bull manure that he has been involved in would have been made public. I believe some of the good ole boys would have been exposed especially Jerry Fisher.

GREENVILLE – Showing almost no emotion, a former Rocky Mount funeral director unexpectedly admitted today that he plotted with his mistress to murder his wife nearly two years ago.

Only three days into his trial, Mark Bowling and his attorneys this morning negotiated a plea deal that will send him to prison for no less than 15 years and three months. (Rocky Mount Telegram)

So Mark was crying during the trial today. Really? If he had been a faithful husband he would not have to cry. What a damn shame.

A Rocky Mount funeral home director and his mistress plotted for more than 10 months and attempted at least three times to kill his wife, prosecutors told jurors Wednesday.

Opening statements were heard in the Mark Bowling murder trial, with defense attorneys arguing that Bowling was the tragic victim of “fatal attraction.” Attorneys suggested that Bowing would be called to the stand to affirm that claim when the defense presents its case. (Rocky Mount Telegram)

I met Mark several years ago when he cremated one of my best friends. I will never forget it because my friend husband and I was the last one to leave out of the funeral home as we were leaving.

Mark was talking to my friend about he and his family going down on the coast on his boat to throw her ashes out over the waters. Thought he was a nice guy.

But then a couple of years later he and Jerry Fisher co-hosted the morning show on WHIG and they talked about Andre Knight Rocky Mount City Councilman and NAACP President because they had a problem with him holding both positions. These guys talked about Knight, myself every Wednesday along with other black folks. These 2 guys were a piece of work.

I will never forget going in the Food Lion on my lunch break the morning of the murder and overheard some folks talking about the murder. I then made some phone calls to verify it.

It was a good thing that Knight was out in Las Vegas because I am quite sure Mark and Jerry would have tried to pin the murder on Knight.

I have no sympathy for Mark.

A jury of four men and eight women was selected Tuesday to determine if a former Rocky Mount funeral home director schemed with his mistress 20 months ago to kill his wife.

Opening statements in Mark Bowling’s murder trial are expected to begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Pitt County Courthouse. Court officials will work through the morning to seat a third alternate juror, before moving forward with the trial. (Rocky Mount Telegram)
