STREET FESTIVAL FOR JUSTICE, AUGUST 23
The "Street Festival For Justice: Celebrating 20 Years of Fighting for Empowerment in the Workplace and
Community" will feature the gospel group, The Ragged Angels of Enfield, North Carolina; R&B music and jazz by the Steve Wing Ensemble, Message Music by the Fruit of Labor Singing Ensemble, poetry/spoken word by Poetic Souls and other entertainment. It will take place Saturday, August 23, 2008, 11AM-6PM on Ivy Street, at Atlantic Ave. in Rocky Mount.
The festival will include a martial arts exhibition. You can consult a lawyer on job issues at the Workers Rights Legal Clinic while health organizations, including the First National Unity Home Healthcare Service, the OIC Health Mobile Van will provide blood pressure, blood sugar and HIV checks. Project Grace, the Human Justice Coalition, the Wilson Labor Council, Upward Bound, will provide other vital information on housing, voting rights and voter registration, dealing with the penal system, youth leadership development and more. Keynote speaker is Ms. Sue Perry Cole, director of the NC Association of Community Development Corporations; other speakers include members of the Rocky Mount City Council, Smithfield workers, youth and Black Workers For Justice.
There will be children’s story-telling and other activities. Chicken & fish dinners will be for sale. All events are free and open to the public.
