"I swore never to be silent whenever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." - Elie Weisel
In re: to Mikki over at the Wilson Times Forum.
The fact that I no longer live in Wilson and really do not have a dog in the fight with the public and Wilson Council, allows me to have an open mind as to what I read. I get to form my opinions from all I read. I can separate the personal editorializing/personal dislike from the facts. It is a nice place to be.
(This is a bunch of bull manure and sounds like a person who likes Councilman James Johnson III and that is fine but just because you like him, I be damn if we have to. I am not affected by ElectriCities directly but indirectly because I have family, friends and enemies who are afffected and they are not as knowledgeable about this as I am. Because I am my brothers keeper, it is my moral obligation to speak up however I recognize and understand that I do not speak for all folks and especially all black folks, but everyone benefits so that is all that matters.) TPA
I took this comment----- "Councilman James Johnson III said that some residents are claiming that the change was made to keep the comment period secretive.
"This experiment I appreciate us doing (is) not to hide something," Johnson said. "If we wanted to hide it, we would close the door"----- to mean, no doors are closed,
(What? First of all I have a problem when someone tries to interpret something of this magnitude where others are affected. The simple damn thing to do would be to call him and ask him what he meant since you didn't get it. Hell it don't take a rocket scientist to figure out what the hell he was saying. But actually both of you are ignant as hell because the doors have been closed to the citizens because they can not see what is going on during the comments but they can see the other part of the meeting in the convience of their home.) TPA
people are invited to speak and the media is still present, nothing secretive. He also used the word "experiment". Rightly or wrongly, as used above, I interpet this word to mean, if it does not bring out more people, then go back to the way it was.
(This is ignant as hell when the real issue is the citizens can not see a certain portion of the meeting because the council keep the citizens from seeing the public comments. Bring out more people? So he want to make people come to their meetings? Why? Some people have good reasons why they don't attend but look at the meeting in their homes. And then high as gas is, why would they want to buy gas to go to the meeting to watch a bunch of ignant a... council members.) TPA
Also, as I have read all your comments, it appears to me, that you are about saber raddling and having people rally around your personal, or possible ex-professional relationship with electricites or friend from electricities, but you really need to stay focused on the real issue. Attacking everyone will not do a thing. Sooner or later, you voice will fade out. Take personl feelings, personal attacks, and any other hidden agendas out and win with the facts. It seems their may be merits to your arguments. Do not cloud them over with "other stuff". JMO
(The problem is dealing with ignant a... folks like you who mislead folks by making ignant comments. You damn right it is personal and should be to all who are concerned be they affected directly or indirectly.
It is funny as hell Mr. Dew questioned the Mayor Bruce Rose about some comments he made in a previous meeting and that is an attack? You damn right it is some merit to the ElectriCities arguments. It is some merit to how the Wilson County Council members conduct business by closing the doors during the comment portion of a televised live showing of their meetings and then when the meeting is re-ran at a later date. It this is not dictatorship I be damn if I know what it is.) TPA
On your other issue-If I remember correctly, NC open meeting laws state you can close doors for closed sessions. However, reasons for closed sessions are limited. Surely, any attorney worth their pay, would keep the city complient. JMO
(You are correct any governing body can close the doors during closed sessions of their meetings however they must state why and give the statue number if I am correct. But the issue here is not about closed sessions but the public comments portion of the meetings.) TPA
Note: Don't know if you included me in your response however I noticed that my response in regards to this matter was posted here and in my opinion you included me. You damn right it is personal to me. TPA
