"The Lion's story will never be told as long as the hunter is telling it"
May. 21, 2007
This is my first entry in to the world of blogging. I have not had a comfortable feeling about blogging because of how I have seen it used even against me. I am, however, keenly aware that in this day of rapid technology, the lion's story can take on a new voice and be heard with a louder roar.
I want to thank the persistence of the folks who cared enough to convince me to take a look at what this very powerful medium can offer me and give to an audience that generally is still using the spoken word as the primary way of communicating. I am not sure how pleased I will be with this new tool, but I know that I want the truth of who I am and why. I have made myself available to my community as a public servant to reach as many people who do not know me as possible. Freedom of speech gives me the right to speak when I feel it is appropriate and not just at the command of the media. I hope that this tool will help me help others understand some of the issues I am dealing with as I try to do the best job I can to serve District 1.
My reason for becoming a member of the city council is simple, I wanted to help people. If as much time and effort had been spent on scrutinizing the real issues as there has been on me, we may have solved a number of the real problems facing our city government and especially our police department. I hope by taking advantage of this new voice, I will be able to bring our focus back to working together for the common good of all who live in District 1, Greensboro and beyond. I do want to share my comments and other materials that I have attempted to share with the public and the media and hope that it will bring about understand, respect and an effort towards moving forward.
If this lion is to tell the story, blogging may be the new frontier. But nothing in my opinion will ever substitute going to the people where they are and meeting them face to face. I will always try to give my best to all I do including being the best public servant I can be. What I was sent to do is not about me, but about serving the greater good for the community.
